Advantages: This radar is more sensitive than the C band radar, and can detect smaller particles than either the C band or S band. X band radars are ideally suited for studies in cloud physics and cloud dynamics. This is a good radar wavelength for meso and micro scale cloud observations. The dish size is smaller than the C band radar, but larger than the K band radar.

Disadvantages: In exchange for the enhanced sensitivity over the C and S band, the effective range, due to attenuation, is less than the C or S band. For general surviellance larger scale surviellance, these radars are generally not recommended.
