Advantages: S band radars are not easily attenuated, and thus are popular among many NMS/NHMS. It's longer range in heavy rainfall events make the radar a good choice for hurricane/typhoon/cyclone detection from coastal locations.


Disadvantages: This is the most expensive radar. The diameter of the dish can be over 25 ft. The larger dish requires a larger motor to move the dish, thus requiring more energy.
