Nanotech

Nanotechnology deals with very small things – working in dimensions of about 1 to 100 nanometers (a sheet of paper is about 100,000 nanometers thick!). The Physicist Richard Feynman is often considered the father of this science, envisioning it in a talk in 1959 ten years before the term was coined. It involves the ability to see at atomic and molecular levels enabled by the scanning tunneling microscope. It holds promise of helping develop new materials with enhanced properties and some astonishing products are already here in this regard – molecular 3D printers to synthesize rare chemicals, enhanced solar power, and even nano-rotors using single molecules.
