Description: Crest gauges are manual stage measurement devices for obtaining the elevation of high flood level. The basic design of a crest gauge is typically that of a 50mm galvanized pipe. Placed in the bottom of the pipe is re-granulated cork, which rises inside the pipe as the cork floats on the surface of the water. As water recedes, the cork adheres to the staff inside the pipe, marking the crest stage of the high-water event.
