Poimapper is a cloud-based data collection, sharing and visualization tool that combines a mobile application with a data management portal. Poimapper was developed by Pajat Solutions Ltd, a mobile software solutions company based in Finland. The mobile application is designed to support field data collection in which the user is not always able to be online, and every change to data is tagged with a timestamp, duration of edit, GPS location, and name of editor. Routes and areas can be traced and displayed on the device’s map. Through Form Builder in the Data Management Portal, users are able to create complex forms that can support different data types and nested questions. The Data Viewer is used to filter, view, edit, export and report on collected field data. Data can be filtered by form type, collection location, editor name and time of last edit. Filtered results can be displayed either on a map as points-of-interest or in tables. Data can also be exported to Excel, Word, SPSS, Google Earth, ArcGIS and other applications. Online reports can be generated that include pie, line bar and area charts.

Potential users are able to have a free working account (for one user only) with a number of features.

  1. Collect & Update: Users collect new data or update existing data with a mobile device. The user is able to download existing background data to the device from previous data collection activities or from databases.
  2. Store & Share: Users can store collected data securely in the cloud or in a private database. Data is shareable between field and office workers.
  3. Integrate, Analyze & Decide: Data can be integrated to existing data systems; data can be analyzed in real-time to support decision-making.
  4. Give Feedback: Office workers can send updated tasks and forms to field workers, as well as new data requests.
Feature Description
Poimapper App The mobile application allows workers in the field to download existing data and add new data points. Data can be visualized on a map and shared with other users.
Data management portal Build forms, manage users and visualize data. The portal lets you analyze your data easily even if you have thousands of POI’s.
Private database Even the basic package contains your own private database.
Open web service interface Both XML and JSON based interfaces for retrieving and updating data from other information systems.
Static and dynamic tables When using static tables the rows have predefined names. When using dynamic tables, the user can add and delete rows from the table, each row getting a row number.
Draft version management During data collection and editing in the device, draft versions of the forms can be stored and work continued later.
Conflict management Conflict management is done by checking for each form during upload whether somebody else has updated the form while the data was in the device.
Data validation Uploaded data can be reviewed in the portal by a user having administrator rights. Field workers can select and download own forms that have been marked as needing editing.
Customizable validation lists To text fields one can add a predefined list of alternatives, for instance zip codes or animal species.
Automatic DB cleanup In survey mode data cannot be downloaded from the server and uploaded data is not stored in the device. Only summary data containing the name of a form and the time when uploaded is kept in the device after upload.
Email and online support Online support during office hours included.
Static and dynamic subforms Static subforms enable a modular design of the forms. With dynamic subforms one can have part-of structures, such as buildings being part of a plot or persons being part of a family.
Online/offline map in device In online mode a global map can be accessed and in off-line mode a preselected set of maps is accessed, typically the map of a country.
